For some time now, Iranian regime authorities have imprisoned Soheil Arabi, an anarcho-syndicalist and political activist, and Afshin Heyratian, a theater artist, anarchist activist, and collaborator with an NGO working for the protection of children. ---- This is what was reported by the Telegram channel "AnarchistFront," one of the few outlets that seeks to report on the grave situation in the country, distancing itself from the interplay of US-IRAN-ISRAEL-HAMAS power dynamics and from biased reporting that fails to give due visibility to internal dissent. We are the first to oppose NATO's wars, Western war propaganda, and European rearmament, but this does not mean that authoritarian, totalitarian, theocratic, or aspiring regimes outside the so-called "West" represent any alternative for those who aspire to build a world of free and equal women.
Predictably, the Iranian regime is using the current conflict to silence all those internal voices of protest, accusing "undesirable" individuals of collaborating with the enemy or posing a security threat. In addition to the imprisonment, the regime has confiscated the assets of Soheil Arabi and Afshin Heyratian: this too is an action (or reaction) that the regime uses to bring opponents to their knees, thus destroying every small resource that might represent hope for the future.
Unfortunately, these are just two of hundreds of arrests of comrades.
The pattern is always the same: using the excuse of collaboration with Israel to silence dissent. The regime even goes so far as to "dust off" old protests and associate them with the enemy. Here, the true face of power becomes clear: it sees the ongoing conflict as an opportunity to strengthen itself and eliminate all those deemed inconvenient or those who are simply against the war and express it openly. Thanks to this excuse, even an "apparent due process" is no longer necessary: simply invoke the emergency, and the reaction of those in power will not be long in coming.
We express solidarity with our comrades, as well as with all those affected by the repression of various reactionary governments. This is where internationalist anarchism can provide an answer to the real problem: flags, governments, and religious fundamentalisms are never on the side of the oppressed. For those in power, the latter only serve to fuel their war resources, becoming cannon fodder. They must be devout, faithful to their religion, but above all, serve in silence. Jamming the machine is complex but possible, when everyone understands that the state in all its forms, with its armies and its wars, is never the solution.
