Last month, a training weekend was held for people experiencing misogyny or transmisogyny. Bringing together comrades from across the federation, this gathering strengthened sisterhood and provided an opportunity to learn from each other about our libertarian feminist perspectives. ---- What is the added value of training in a women-only space? ---- The answer is clear in practice: during mixed-gender training sessions, questions come primarily from men because the power dynamics in the social sphere are not in favor of gendered individuals[1].
Feminism, but not only
This weekend was nonetheless rich in precise and insightful questions, allowing us to arm ourselves politically and also to feel ready to publicly advocate for our positions.
It started with zucchini and raspberry jam: we needed at least that to kick off the first training session of the day on imperialism and the colonialism that stemmed from it. We then delved into questions of intersectionality; it was also an opportunity to revisit our feminist histories and their "whitewashing"[2]. Between periods of activist practice, we also discussed anti-ableist struggles, such as the fight against the exploitation of disabled people by sheltered workshops (ESATs).
New perspectives
Heir to a long tradition of struggle, UCL now practices time limits, double lists, single-sex spaces, and also has a procedure for handling sexist and sexual violence that has been widely adopted in activist circles. All of these conditions have allowed gendered individuals in our organization to move beyond simply engaging in anti-patriarchal activism and to become involved on other fronts of struggle. Now is the time for new projects to develop anarcha-feminist thought: a national event, new forms of transformative justice to analyze, but also strengthening our ranks for a massive libertarian feminist front.
