During the night between Tuesday, May 12th and Wednesday, May 13th, a raid occurred with Nazi and fascist graffiti in various parts of Pisa. Among the targeted locations was Piazza San Silvestro, known as Piazza Franco Serantini, where a monument commemorates the anarchist comrade killed by the police in 1972 while opposing a fascist rally. They didn't dare deface the marble donated by the Carrara quarrymen, which their comrades from Empoli had cleaned last Saturday, May 9th. However, they left a brick with a swastika next to the memorial, and they also painted a swastika and some other graffiti on the benches in the square. Similar graffiti appeared in various parts of the city center. The most serious was at the Cantiere Sanbernardo, a social space that also hosts benefit events for Umanità Nova organized by the Vicolo del Tidi Anarchist Circle. There, they painted a swastika and a Celtic cross on one of the gates and graffitied the surrounding streets. Fascist and Nazi symbols also marked other areas of the city center during the night, where there are spaces and clubs. One of the graffiti reads "Futurist Pisa," a slogan attributable to Vannacci's party, which has reportedly declared itself innocent of the incident. Someone has already covered up or corrected these graffiti. Now it's up to anti-fascist groups, in Pisa and elsewhere, to create the conditions so that fascists don't feel legitimized, after their years in government, to commit such acts of arrogance.
