Jacques Leclerc continues his rich and erudite work on the far right. After publishing a Dictionary of the Right-Wing Movement in 2008, National and Ultra-Conservative Right-Wing Movements in 2010, From the Unashamed Right to the Subversive Right in 2012, Neo-Nazis and the Far Right in 2015, and The Far Right Threat in France in 2024, he returns with a new and equally insightful work on these movements. Following a chapter of historical context, he presents an overview of the various far-right groups, often dissolved and frequently reconstituted under a different name. He demonstrates that the number of groups is constantly growing. He then reminds us that far-right terrorism constitutes one of the main threats. Networks are established and significant. As he emphasizes, they can rely on a network of mercenaries who often practice survivalism. The far right can count on attentive and receptive ears, and develops or adopts new concepts: supremacy, ethnic warfare, and extreme masculinism.
It relies on diverse networks, such as sports clubs on the one hand, but also on a growing cultural ground, increasingly present in bookstores, on the other.
This meticulous and valuable study, presented in the form of fact sheets and historical context, is a useful tool for understanding the scale of the phenomenon.
