Anonymous artists opened the second autonomous art exhibition on June 24th on the Passerelle pedestrian and bicycle bridge on the German-French border between Kehl and Strasbourg. This exhibition's theme was "The man-made climate catastrophe is here: We live right in the middle of it." --- 26 images - paintings, drawings, and collages - express feelings about the omnipresent climate catastrophe in very different ways. An introductory text in German, English, and French puts the whole thing into perspective:
The man-made climate catastrophe is here: We live right in the middle of it.
The most powerful man in the world described the climate catastrophe at the UN General Assembly in the fall of 2025 as "the greatest fraud ever perpetrated against the world."
Here and now, as we hang these pictures on the footbridge on June 24th, in the midst of one of Europe's most intense heat waves, we ask ourselves what else we must endure from the world's powerful. Because the fascist Trump is not alone. He is not the only one who wants to continue drilling for oil, extracting natural gas, and blithely burning through the world's future. He is not the only one who wants to continue exploiting the Earth's resources unhindered and accumulating wealth. He is not the only one who wants to continue jetting around the world in private jets and luxury yachts. He is not the only one who wants to continue ruthlessly exploiting animals and burning down rainforests for animal feed. He is not the only one who wants to continue burning diesel and claiming the freedom of the highways for himself. He is not the only one who wants to push generative AI and its data centers to the brink of overkill. The governments of the EU, and especially Germany's, are doing everything they can to emulate Trump. Merz, the rich, and their ilk are no better: they don't give a damn about you or me, about all of us. Growth and profits are their top priority. They don't give a damn about the people around them or those who will come after them. Capitalism is a death cult, and the powerful are its priests.
With these images, we express our feelings about the state of the world. Others set Teslas on fire, blow up banks, or occupy trees and coal excavators.
We all need to take action.
The dividing line remains between the rich and the poor.
System change, not climate change.
Down with capitalism.
