WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE GREECE - news journal UPDATE - (en) Greece, APO: Positioning of the Anarchist Collective Circle of Fire at the 8th Congress of the Anarchist Political Organization - ?? 13-14 June 2026 - Thessaloniki IV. (4/4) (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

WAR AND FASCISM --- States and ruling elites are redistributing the world and the blackest thing that human history has ever produced is emerging. War and fascism, as the most depraved expressions of state and capitalist imposition, constitute a reality that threatens societies all over the world. The class, social, internationalist solidarity barricades and the popular/social resistances and uprisings of the plebeians all over the world constitute humanity's only hope for the overthrow of the dominant destructive plans and for the building of a new society of equality, solidarity and freedom.

At the same time, transnational formations are increasing their aggression, sharpening their antagonisms and working to expand their power by military means, with disastrous consequences for every people in their path, plundering most of the planet for centuries and preparing the next step. The transition from regional conflicts "by proxy" to generalized war, in order to maintain the blood-stained "acquisitiveness" of their declining empire.
States and transnational mechanisms are starting up war machines, launching military operations and shaping warring societies both to expand their sphere of influence and to continue the plunder of the state and capitalist machine. A condition in which the only real losers are the people themselves, who are faced with the war massacres and the consequences of war, impoverishment, poverty, uprooting and death.
This is what is highlighted in the most tragic way, both in the war massacre in Ukraine after the invasion of the Russian army almost 5 years ago and in the genocide of the Palestinian people for the persecution from their land, the ongoing bloodshed in Gaza and the West Bank, the bombings of Beirut, the leveling and persecutions in southern Lebanon by the genocidal Zionist state of Israel which is furiously attempting to impose its absolute hegemony in the Middle East and the southeastern Mediterranean. This is also evidenced by the ever-increasing aggression of the US in various parts of the world and the war against Iran, as a result of the crisis of their global hegemony and the enormous and multiple internal crises and their need to reassert their control over strategic regions rich in oil, minerals, water and biodiversity.

THE ROLE OF THE GREEK STATE
Greece, as a member of the European Union and NATO, is firmly oriented towards the pursuits of the dominant political and economic elite of which it is an integral part and is tied to the chariot of Euro-Atlanticism, responsible for so many interventions in recent years and not only. The current political administration, like all previous ones, has fulfilled and continues to fulfill its mission in full, which is none other than the continuous effort, in its part, for the unhindered imposition of the modern dictatorship of the state and capital, of modern totalitarianism, on a global level.
Both the strategic energy agreement and the renewal of the Greek-US defense cooperation with the upgrade of the American base of Souda and its role in the wider region, the transfer of "special" weapons to the Araxos air base and the expansion of existing NATO military bases in a number of areas of the country, including Larissa, Stefanovikeio and the helicopter base in Alexandroupolis, constitute another example of the ratification and expansion of relations between the Greek and American states, confirmation of the attachment of the domestic bourgeoisie to the chariot of interests of the dominant international political-economic elite and strengthening of the role of the Greek state in the critical region of the Balkans and the Eastern Mediterranean.
In particular, the US base in Souda operates as a critical center for military monitoring, coordination and support of US and Euro-Atlantic operations throughout the Mediterranean and the Middle East. The upgrading and expansion of its capabilities is directly linked to military actions in the Middle East, including direct and indirect support for the Israeli state and its participation in the genocide of the Palestinian people. This base symbolizes and serves the maintenance of US and Euro-Atlantic sovereignty and guardianship in the critical region of the Eastern Mediterranean, providing military capabilities for rapid reaction and handling of its geopolitical interests.

The Greek state during the American and Israeli bombings of Iran provided all possible support to these operations, sent warships and planes to Cyprus, pretending that it was for assistance and for defensive purposes to prevent an attack on it, while in reality it was to defend the British military base at the Paphos cape. It then sent anti-aircraft systems to Karpathos for the defense of the American base at Souda, its frigates were and continue to be off the coast of Israel for its defense and the transfer of information via military radars regarding imminent strikes on NATO and American-Israeli targets, and Greek patriots were used to intercept Iranian ballistic missiles targeting an oil company in Saudi Arabia. This is the framework within which the country is becoming increasingly actively involved in US and Israeli war plans, making the Greek region the front line of the rear of Western imperialism's military operations in the Middle East.

REPRESSION - INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY
The genocide of the Palestinian people is being carried out with the alliance of Western states, whose lukewarm "humanitarian" statements simply confirm their consent and support for Israel's operations. Within this framework, both in the US and in Europe, states are attacking those who are fighting against the atrocity that is unfolding before the eyes of the entire world. On May 18, the Israeli Navy intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters, south of Cyprus, kidnapping a total of 461 activists under the guise of piracy. At the same time, 87 of the activists began a hunger strike as a sign of protest for their abduction by Israel but also in solidarity with the more than 9,500 Palestinian prisoners, who are tortured daily in the cells of the Zionist regime, awaiting their execution after the recent law passed by the Knesset. The activists who were abducted by the Israeli forces were faced with a lot of torture, with most of them being severely beaten, while there were also allegations of sexual abuse and rape. After the obvious participation of the Greek state in the first interceptions off Crete, the Cypriot state takes the baton and delivers the solidarity activists into the hands of the Zionists. It is clear that the repression extends beyond the borders of Gaza and the West Bank and is directed against any act of internationalist solidarity. The Israeli state, after completely razing Gaza, continues its settlements in the West Bank, its bombings in Lebanon and Iran, and continues to demonstrate its bloodthirsty actions with Western governments acquiescing through their hypocritical humanitarian complaints. At the same time, they maintain political and economic agreements with Israel, while attacking solidarity demonstrations taking place around the world and criminalizing the symbols of the Palestinian people, proclaiming that in the world of the state and capitalism, there is only one "justice." Despite state repression, the resistance that is being demonstrated is preserving human dignity in the face of the ongoing genocide of a people, in the face of the blatant distortion of reality, of their words and meanings, of history, in the face of the silence that the same states that allow this historical crime to be committed are attempting to impose within themselves by force. At a local level, a prime example of a repressive operation is the murderous attack on the solidarity march with the Palestinian people in Athens on 07/10/25, where the uniformed assault battalions of democracy brutally attacked the body of the demonstration, making 18 arrests, violently beating the demonstrators and causing serious injuries, while the attempt for yet another conspiracy by inventing criminal charges for those arrested immediately began. At the international level, throughout the genocide, the majority of international humanitarian missions have been prevented and banned by Israel, with typical examples initially being the hitting of a ship - a solidarity mission by two Israeli drones in international waters near Malta, the blocking of the Madleen shortly before it reached the Gaza Strip, then the attack on the global sumud flotilla and the kidnapping of hundreds of its members and the blocking of the one thousand madleens flotilla along with the captivity of those on board. All these international missions were intended to break the blockade imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip in order to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine and despite their prevention, they were important points of international mobilization and coordination of solidarity with the struggling Palestinian people. Also at the local level, the nationwide mobilization of solidarity with the struggling Palestinian people and the targeting of the Souda base with the large and dynamic presence of a multitude of comrades/associates and collectives, who responded nationwide, is a reference point in the fight against the genocide of Palestine and leaves an important political legacy for the future. As an Anarchist Political Organization, we called for and promoted the two-day mobilizations, while many comrades of the APO groups from Athens and Thessaloniki participated with a distinct anarchist presence in both the demonstration in the city of Chania and in the one towards the Souda base. The aim of our intervention was to express solidarity with the Palestinian people against the occupation, apartheid and genocide, as well as overall the development and dissemination of the anarchist anti-war discourse against the Greek state, whose role is strengthened through the undivided and comprehensive support of the USA and Israel. Also at the local level, the nationwide mobilization of solidarity with the struggling Palestinian people and the targeting of the Souda base with the large and dynamic presence of a multitude of comrades and collectives, who responded nationwide, constitutes a point of reference in the struggle against the genocide of Palestine and leaves an important political legacy for the future. For our part, as organized anarchist fighters, we have been at the forefront of demonstrations and mobilizations against war, fascism, colonialism and imperialism as the offspring of the imposition of global state domination and capitalism. We stand in solidarity with every people who fight hard and persistently for their survival, dignity and freedom with their only allies the fighters throughout the world. As anarchists, we want to highlight these elements of their struggle, the ability of the conquered to fight back against the all-powerful conqueror, the ability of the poor and the excluded to rebel even under the most barbaric conditions. We want international solidarity to create rifts within the attacking rulers by bringing to the fore our own history, the history of the struggles of those from below that, against all times, create the living reality of freedom and solidarity, constituting the only real bulwark against the onslaught of modern totalitarianism. At the same time, as APO, we have had the opportunity in the past period, and on the occasion of the organization of the hosting of the conference of the international anarchist federations, to elaborate and deepen even further our positions and analyses in the direction of our theoretical contribution to the anarchist movement. Today we are living in a period of distortion of concepts and values, and the need for the anarchist movement to build its political, moral and ideological framework is more urgent than ever, both for the awakening of the consciousness of those from below, and for the defense of its positions against the attempts to impose foreign concepts regarding the anarchist struggle and internationalist solidarity. These attempts stem from authoritarian tendencies, mainly of leftist political origin, and are expressed through the support of totalitarian state formations, the condemnation of popular uprisings, the alignment with centers of power, consciously false dilemmas, emotional blackmail, slander of fighters and threats, all superficially dressed in the cloak of anti-imperialism.
The logic of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" always leads to the same dead end: silence about the crimes of the new and opportunistic ally, justification of its violence and rejection of the struggles that it suppresses internally. Thus, anti-imperialism is transformed into a geopolitical tool, losing all libertarian content and analytical substance.
From an anarchist perspective, this is inconceivable. There is no imperialism without a state. There is no imperialism without internal repression. The same structures that expand outwards also discipline inwards, within class-stratified societies. The same mechanisms bomb, imprison, torture and exterminate, and anyone who pretends not to see this is not practicing anti-imperialism but political cover-up.
Proletarian internationalism does not choose states, flags or poles through opportunistic alliances, although this does not mean that it will not exploit the internal contradictions and ruptures of the system. It chooses sides in social struggles: it stands with the workers, with the refugees crushed at the borders, with the conscripts and deserters, with the prisoners, with the insurgents, with all those who pay the cost of imperialist antagonisms, wherever they may be. It does not go through foreign ministries or geopolitical calculations. It goes through internationalist solidarity from below.

The main strategic priorities of the Greek state and the ruling class over time are to serve their inextricable connection with the Euro-Atlantic axis and to promote anti-social restructurings with the aim of the overall transformation of the state, the economy and society. The imposition on society of the confirmation and expansion of these strategic priorities of domination that preceded the period 2011-2019 was achieved both with the systematic and brutal suppression of self-organized popular/social/class struggles and with the collaboration and cooperation of all political and party personnel of the democracy from the right and far right to the establishment and social democratic left. Thus, the political management of the last seven years, which constitutes the far right version of modern totalitarianism, is advancing with even greater aggression in the declared goals of the world of power. From privatizations, the plundering of the natural world, the flexibilization and intensification of labor, the cultivation of racism and nationalism, the even greater attachment to NATO, the permanentization of the role of the border guard of Fortress Europe, to the suppression of social and class struggles and the attack on the anarchist movement.

The state crime in Tempi 3 and a half years ago, as well as the experience of previous mass state crimes, such as in Ricomex, Samina, Ilia, Mandra, Mati and Pylos, demonstrate the incurably antisocial and murderous nature of the imposed authoritarian and hierarchical way of organizing society by the state and capital. Thus, it becomes clear that the mediation of social relations as a whole by the state, regardless of its political management, over time has not been oriented and aimed at serving social needs, but on the contrary, the priority of state institutions and mechanisms has always been the perpetuation and reproduction of the parasitic relationship of political and economic elites to the detriment of society.
The same is demonstrated by the employer's murder of 5 workers at the Violanta factory in Trikala, after an explosion that destroyed the facilities in which they worked, and from which 7 other workers were injured, as well as the subsequent efforts of state mechanisms to conceal the employer's shortcomings in protective measures, the illegal propane constructions, the undeclared facilities in the factory's basement, the employer's terrorism that was practiced for years in this labor camp. The explosion at Violanta is neither a random event nor an accident, but on the contrary constitutes the tip of the iceberg of the savage class exploitation imposed in the workplace, another prescribed state and capitalist crime. The dozens of murders of workers in the labor camps of modern slavery, which reached 201 in 2025 alone, testify that the exploited and oppressed continue to pay with their blood for the maintenance and reproduction of the barbaric exploitative and oppressive system, which oppresses, murders, and impoverishes.
The same is also demonstrated by the recent mass murders of refugees and immigrants in the Chios shipwreck, where the coast guard boat literally ran over them, dismembering them, while survivors of the shipwreck were subsequently targeted for prosecution, in order to justify yet another state crime and to shift responsibility from the perpetrators to the victims. The murderous anti-immigrant "deterrence" policies and the construction of Fortress Europe are reflected in the thousands of dead refugees and immigrants at land and water borders, in those trapped and piled up in miserable conditions in modern concentration camps, in those imprisoned under a special racist regime of exception. The "walls" that are being erected not only serve to keep the outcasts, the "surplus populations" out of Europe by any means, but also to lead Western societies to entrench fascism within them, to create a social condition of fear, control and hatred with the aim of tacit acceptance of their savage exploitation by the rulers.

The state and capitalist attack on all aspects of life is a result of the overall crisis of the system and is becoming increasingly acute, seeking to deprive the vast social majority of any prospect of resistance and at the same time to uproot what has been gained in the past through bloody struggles. The ever-increasing intensification of the workplace and the imposition of more onerous conditions in the labor camps, the attack on education at every level with the sharpening of class barriers, exclusions, repression and discipline, the dismantling and devaluing of the National Health System, the attack on struggling health workers and the exclusion of the poor from access to health, the plundering of the natural world and the destruction of local communities for the profits of the state and capital, the upgrading of the state's legal arsenal and the fierce repressive fury that it has unleashed against social and class resistance are some of the points of the restructuring that the political and economic bosses are attempting to impose on the vast social majority, with the aim of complete social transformation and the creation of a subjugated and fearful society, helpless to stand up to injustice and unfreedom that exists.

It is clear that social justice for every state-capitalist crime could not come through state institutions and mechanisms, but only from the social base itself. Through an organized social class movement that will constitute a real threat to the system that murders, impoverishes and suppresses. A movement that will put the overall perspective of social and class emancipation at the center, dispelling the illusions that are cultivated about justification through courtrooms and parliamentary benches and offer continuous legitimization of the criminal state-capitalist system. A movement that will confront those who propose assigning the coverage of social needs to the state, constantly demonstrating that the exclusive goal of state institutions and mechanisms over time has been the perpetuation and reproduction of the parasitic relationship of political and economic elites to the detriment of society. The only path to the real fulfillment of social needs and expectations is the unmediated, unguarded and anti-institutional struggle to build a world where social goods will be under the control of the social base itself, from the bottom up for the bottom up. This is why the continuous, visible and organized intervention of anarchists is imperative at every point where state and capitalist aggression manifests itself, in the direction of the collective organization, strengthening and connection of the existing points of resistance from below that constitute in the here and now bulwarks against state and capitalist aggression, and the creation of new collective centers of struggle in schools, colleges, labor camps, neighborhoods in the direction of building a world of equality, solidarity and freedom.

The depth of modern totalitarianism is manifested on the one hand by the continuous and more unfavorable restructurings against the large social majority, but also by the preparation of the social base for a warring society, the consolidation of a condition of silence and at the same time submission to the plans of the dominant and on the other hand by the crushing of the internal enemy, any resistance that manifests itself from below and aims to put a dam on the antisocial and criminal policies of the state and capital. This is why the anarchist movement, as long as the system of power is delegitimized and is in deep crisis, is a basic target of repression, in physical and ideological terms, through its slander and the operation of its isolation. However, the crisis in which the state and capitalist system finds itself does not necessarily lead to its collapse, on the contrary, it intensifies its attack with arrogance and heightened intensity, aiming at numbing social and class resistance and at the prevalence of fear.
Thus, the rulers today attempt to erase the imprints of entire decades of harsh social and class struggles because they function as social examples of resistance that survive and reproduce, because they continue to inspire new generations and show paths of struggle to the oppressed today, because they keep alive the prospect of social emancipation and liberation.
The social and class uprising of December 2008 was a leading political and social event of the post-political period, the result of long-term struggles in which anarchist projects mainly expressed social radicalism, while within the uprising the anarchists had a leading role both for its outbreak and for its form and contents. The uprising also highlighted the limits of the forms of organization of the anarchist-anti-authoritarian struggle itself. It is this point, in the assessment of the uprising and the previous period, in the possibilities that it gave rise to and were not fulfilled, where the idea of the necessity for anarchist political organization is born. The informalist anti-organizational model is distinguished by discontinuity, occasionality in collaborations and often inconsistency and self-referentiality, determination by reflexivity and conjuncture. It is dominated by a lack of commitment without being able to collectively elaborate positions and proposals on the basis of cinematic experience. It contains the culture of conscious or not abstention from collective processes, which results in the production and reproduction of -informal but real- processes of assignment and hierarchies. In addition, the lack of a stable place of political fermentation, peer criticism and self-criticism leads to its replacement by social functions and a space that operates at critical points as a sum of parties and not on the basis of political criteria.
In the years that followed the December uprising, the objective condition of the decline of the state and capitalist empire intensified. Due to real weaknesses (ideological and organizational), but also the inexorable need of the state and capitalist machine not to disorganize in a spiral of decay amidst generalized social discontent, the subjective ability of the oppressed to defend themselves against their oppressors was consistently struck: the idea, the perception that the faltering empire is a fighter. With propaganda but also the increase in the rates of violence, with reformist illusions but also the repressive armor, with the ideological attack and the cooperation of the entire bourgeois world to contain the unruly, the degenerate power-hungry people, in the midst of the generalized and total crisis of the state and capitalist system, are attempting a total attack locally and internationally.
The Anarchist Political Organization is a child of December 2008, of the student mobilizations of 2006-2007 and of the great social mobilizations of 2010-12 and is inspired by the historical legacy of the anarchist movement in Spain in the first half of the 20th century. Of the libertarian movement of the CNT-FAI which, through hard struggles, uprisings and, above all, class, social, political organization, managed to put into practice the idea of the generalized overthrow of the state and capitalism and to develop social self-management. Since its formation, 10 years ago, it continues to be an open call for anarchists who refer to organized and collective struggle and social revolution, a permanent proposal for the ideological, political and organizational formation of the anarchist movement, a firm position of battle and rallying in the streets alongside those who question the barbarity of power. With consistency and continuity on the class and social fronts of struggle that place barriers to the further degradation of our lives today and having as a perspective the conquest of the only life worth living: that in the popular councils of the social revolution.
At this point, closing our position, we would like to quote a comment from a comrade regarding the organization of anarchists, emphasizing that the path followed for its formation was neither certain, nor easy and inexpensive, nor did it already have a ready-made path carved and tested in front of it to tread and draw upon, in contrast to today where it constitutes a political, ideological and organizational legacy but also a living example of struggle, when the forgotten in those years but necessary, indispensable and historically justified idea of the organization of anarchists returned to the fore through the contribution of comrades who managed to make it tangible, propose it and formalize it:
"The anarchist organization in Greece has been taking shape and is a living example in recent years, it was born through chronic movement processes within the anarchist movement and not from personal desires and readings, it draws from the historical examples that determined the course of the case "Organization does not stop or begin at the personal impulses of each individual, on the contrary, it requires the awareness of the need to massify the existing structures that continue to consistently stand within the struggles."
In the face of the organized attack of the state and capital that locally and internationally has nothing more to promise than war and fascism, the only hope for societies lies in the barricades of the exploited and oppressed and the political, social and class organization of the struggle in the direction of social revolution and emancipation. Through unmediated anti-hierarchical and unguarded struggles from below, we can move on to the counterattack against exploitation and oppression. To rebuild life with basic ingredients of social solidarity, cooperation, without bosses and slaves. To make generalized social Self-Direction a tangible reality, to summarize political freedom and economic equality in the modern revolutionary program. For a libertarian movement of all the exploited and oppressed that will give way to real needs.
