Fontenis wrote his Manifesto in 1954 with the aim of focusing entirely on building a powerful organization, breaking sharply with the synthesis wing of their organization at the time, the Anarchist Federation (FA) of 1945. ---- "Discipline," "Party," "vanguard"-everything was there to horrify the individualistic sensibilities that would soon become a minority. But while the terms and practices must be understood within the context of the post-war libertarian movement, the Manifesto has the immense merit of confronting questions that the libertarian movement is reluctant to address head-on: the relationship between activists and the masses, their role during periods of decline, the relationship between the organization and its members...
To be read with the critical and historical introductions, Fontenis produces a short, accessible, and convincing text, aimed at activists, equipping them politically with an immense ambition for our movement, an ambition that has not been lost since.
