Macron is waiting for his halo, hoping to bask in the sun next to this sorry excuse for a man. In a tweet in May, he announced that this visit "will be an honor for our country, a joy for Catholics, and a great moment of hope for all."
The Pope's visit is a major squandering of public money and bigoted idolatry. We don't expect an organization that lives lavishly off donations from wealthy capitalists to pacify the world and change the fate of refugees, the vulnerable, the oppressed, etc.As anti-authoritarians, we don't seek to coerce consciences. We leave that to the priests. To their obscurantism, we oppose a firm and rationalist critique of this visit, which dangerously blurs the lines between the two.
The State demands the signing of a republican commitment contract for an association to reserve a function room, while simultaneously opening the Stade de France to the chief theocrat, and the city of Metz proudly declares it is spending 500,000 euros of public money to receive the puppet in the Popemobile... The confusion is utter!
Let us remember that the Pope is both a head of state and a religious leader. The Vatican does not distinguish between divine law and civil law. Leo XIV commands both souls and bodies. Beneath his doting grandfatherly exterior, he is a tyrant like any other.
The Pope obviously opposes the rights of women, homosexuals, gender minorities, etc. The Church and the State are always in league against the self-determination of individuals and peoples. This visit will give him a wide platform to oppose individual freedoms at our expense.

While professing militant atheism, the Anarchist Federation asserts its demands regarding secularism. Establishing the separation of church and state is only part of the journey. Separating the state from capital is already better, but still insufficient. Churches, the state, and capital all want to command, dominate, intimidate, coerce, subordinate, and control...
