The repressive, authoritarian, and bourgeois state once again distinguished itself yesterday with the deployment of a massive police force in La Louvière. ---- A resident of La Louvière was evicted from her home following months of legal proceedings. Ten housing rights activists-who had come to support her and peacefully oppose an eviction they deemed unjustified-were arrested by the police and taken into custody. ---- Proportionality, you say? One would hope for just as much energy to be spent upholding rights other than those of property owners-for instance, the right to decent housing.
The group *Ici & Maintenant* condemns the arrest of the ten activists and this latest show of force-a display serving property rights and the protection of the wealthy, while ignoring the impoverishment of society fostered by the capitalist system.For us anarchists, this phenomenon is neither marginal nor unique to La Louvière-though in this specific instance, we also lament the betrayal by a self-proclaimed "Left" (currently in power alongside the MR party) that is betraying the very word "socialism" and its associated values. This type of excessive use of police force aims only to accustom us to repression, domination, and silencing. And this is just the beginning: the *Engagés*-MR government and the State are preparing to criminalize solidarity, hospitality, and activism (via measures such as the Quintin Law, house arrests, and evictions).
We shed no tears over the plight of landlords who fail to collect their rent. To us, property is theft. We remain faithful to the principles and actions of the Anti-Property Owners' League, and to the so-called illegalism of moonlight flits and squatting.
