June 2nd in Niscemi, an unexpected day with diverse perspectives and points of view, both dissonant and diverse. Five months after the landslide, Niscemi celebrated June 2nd with two opposing events. In the morning, the city's mafia-like bourgeoisie, along with the forces of disorder, paid homage to the Carabinieri who fell in the Iraq war, demonstrating once again the hypocritical "love of the homeland," shedding crocodile tears over the Italian dead, killed by the Iraqi resistance. The No Muos Movement, in the city's main square, reaffirmed its uncompromising opposition to the war and military servitude. Numerous speeches underscored the militaristic nature of the anniversary, which, from a celebration of the end of the monarchy and fascism, has become a display of the culture of death, pain, and suffering that the armed forces represent. The antimilitarist square was filled with banners, flags, and informational posters. Important was the presence of a group of Tunisian women and their families, with touching and forceful speeches in support of the Palestinian people. The state of negligence towards the Palestinian people was forcefully denounced. of the city, regional and national authorities in the management of the landslide, where to date nothing has been done.
The speech was applauded by some residents of Niscemi who were involved in the landslide. It was emphasized that the US base affected by the landslide was the focus of immediate safety measures, and the use of antennas and the MUOS (Muos) during the ongoing World War II was reiterated. We closed the morning in the square, setting a date for June 21st for the National Day of Mobilizations Against the War launched by Women, which, in addition to a demonstration in Rome, will include a regional demonstration in Niscemi. Prior to the anti-militarist initiative in Niscemi, on May 27th the Palermo court sentenced Luigi Spera, an activist from Antudo, to 4 years and 9 months, with a 5-year ban from holding public office, for the action in front of Leonardo Spa in Palermo on the night of November 26th, 2022, in solidarity with the Kurdish people, who were attacked by the Turkish state. His comrade is charged with carrying and possessing explosive devices capable of projectile projectiles. Excellently defended by lawyers Bisogna and Trenta, who refuted the charges of terrorism and incitement to crime, which initially led to his partner's detention in high-security prison in Alessandria for several months. The Italian State joined the trial as a civil party, obtaining a paltry compensation of EUR2,000, with Leonardo Spa being a meager sum, hoping to pass for a harmless little factory. Instead, Leonardo has long been involved in the war with the City of Palermo, along with the shipyard, thus causing both industrial hubs to be guilty of terrible crimes. The Palermo Court's conviction, and the reckless initiative of the police headquarters, demonstrate that a strong authoritarian shift has been underway in Palermo for some time now, with the institutional culture viewing political opposition as a potential terrorist phenomenon. We must firmly oppose this.Antonio Rampolla
