WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE ITALY ITALIA ROME - news journal UPDATE - (en) Italy, UCADI #211 - MASS DISTRACTION (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

While the Meloni government is on track to become the longest-serving in the Republic-which isn't necessarily a virtue, given that stability often coincides with stagnation-a mass distraction operation is being invented to survive . Indeed, the government is afloat, wages are stagnant, indeed in recession, welfare is degrading and falling apart, the healthcare system, under-resourced and understaffed, provides ever fewer services, the school system is a disaster, understaffed and with stale programs, needlessly revitalized through the creation of new but foolish courses, employment prospects for young people are nonexistent, and their exodus from the country remains constant at more than 500,000 per year, worsening the demographic crisis. The state is lacking not only in development and planning policies, but also in the day-to-day management of public service structures, which are governed by bureaucratic clientelism, managerial incompetence, and inefficiency, due to the parceling out of management positions among a clientelistic ruling and bureaucratic class. Through a comprehensive management of appointments, over the course of four or nearly five years, the government has managed to innovate-far from for the better-this army of public power enforcers, while simultaneously degrading its role, function, and funding by depriving local authorities of necessary resources, thus preventing them from operating at all.

This is evidenced by the comatose management of those still significant remnants of public industry, which survived the sell-offs orchestrated by the celebrated Mario Draghi, who initiated their planned divestment, handing over ownership to private financial capital, invited to share the profits. This has resulted in a progressive decline in innovation investments, to the point of zero, a decline in planning and expansion into new sectors, and a consequent downsizing of the productive and industrial apparatus. Globalization and delocalization have done the rest, leaving the country a growing desert and transforming it, under the illusion that the surviving mass tourism sector was sufficient to guarantee the country's future,
transforming it into the holiday oasis of Europe and the world. They have failed to realize that even if they want to develop quality tourism, investment is needed; otherwise, this sector too will decline and fail under the weight of managerial inefficiency.
The manufacturing excellence of our industrial facilities has not been defended: a case in point is GSM in Florence, a cutting-edge, highly productive company, dismantled by competitors to maximize profits by moving production to lower labor costs; and the examples that could be cited are endless. Last but not least, the nonexistent energy policy has created the conditions for a loss of competitiveness for production located in Italy and has encouraged their dismantling and exodus to other production areas, where the respective governments have managed to guarantee access to much less expensive and certainly competitive energy.
But this government's masterpiece has been its foreign policy, maintaining a submissive and obedient attitude, like all European Union countries, to US policies, behaving as faithful and servile vassals in the service of the empire and still declaring themselves proud supporters of the attacked Ukraine, to which this government, like the previous one and the opposition, have guaranteed unwavering support, regardless of any assessment of opportunity, convenience, historical and political reasons, or merit, in relation to an assessment of the xenophobic, racist, nationalist regime, enemy of religious freedom and freedom of thought, oppressor of ethnic and linguistic minorities, and oppressing a multicultural and multilingual country.
This solidarity has manifested itself through a constant financial outlay for the supply of weapons systems, a sum that, on a single scale, seems paltry-75 euros per capita-until now. Yet, when viewed as a whole, it is enormous, considering the state budget's shortcomings in funding welfare, and considering the size of the Italian public debt, which has continued to grow relentlessly, in the name of a misplaced solidarity that has enriched a corrupt ruling and political class, especially the Ukrainian one, which has generously and shamelessly benefited from bribes on military supplies, thus slaughtering the Ukrainian population.

The responsibilities of the left

If the government's responsibilities are grave, those of the opposition are no less serious in its complicity in this operation. In our last editorial, we highlighted the expediency considerations that may have pushed the opposition leader to reiterate her support for Kiev, seeking to gain legitimacy to take over the government and succeed the current one, within a framework compatible with the Atlantic Alliance. But we believe we understand her reluctance to travel to Kiev, as requested by many, wanting to maintain a sense of modesty in the face of the ignominy of going to support with her presence a government that advocates a narrow-minded, illiberal, xenophobic, and racist nationalism, evoking the glories of the neo-Nazi UPA, incompatible with the democratic values it claims to defend: a government of thieves and corrupt officials that is Ukraine's greatest enemy (see ongoing investigations).
After having destroyed its population, so much so that it is already thinking of planning for the future, taking as a reference point a population reduced to 38 million, without taking into account the further losses it will suffer with the deprivation of a large part of its territory and the probable return to the native peoples of the acquired areas of Bukovina, Transcarpathia, and Volhynia, what will remain of a defeated Ukraine, deprived of its outlet to the sea, if not a people of war veterans ready for violence and prone to a xenophobic and resentful nationalism?
Very few currently seem to realize the poison brewed in Kiev that is deeply infecting the Baltic countries, largely predisposed to harboring the virus of racial and ethnic superiority, eager for revenge against the Slavic peoples they consider their eternal enemies. True, his opposition to the Gaza genocide has restored dignity to the Italian left, and today two of its members seem to have grasped this: it's no coincidence that Conte is timidly trying to change the position of the entire left, aware that the majority of Italians oppose financing the war in Ukraine and rearmament and harbor no anti-Russian sentiments, at least not those left-wing voters. A mainstream group of journalists, political scientists, fanatics, factionalists and liars who, out of interest or conviction, have placed themselves at the disposal of the European Union, of its ruling class, of Atlanticist political circles, and draw on the generous funding that the European Union provides, are working to raise doubts on the issue and to support Ukraine. The same goes for self-styled research centers, where partisan, particularly odious political scientists, cartographers, and war news website managers have, not coincidentally, shifted from battlefield commentary and reporting to geopolitical considerations. Rather than reporting on the battlefield situation, as they did in the past, they avoid doing so. If they did so with any degree of objectivity, they would have to report on Ukraine's steady and progressive retreat on the battlefield and a steady advance of the Russian army, which is conquering the cities of Donbas one by one and is preparing to extend its action to the axis that starts in the Sumy Oblast and extends to the Dniper, turning towards Odessa and Bukovina, and rejoining Transnistria, marking the geographical end of Ukraine as we know it today.

A program for a new government

It is well known that the Meloni government, concerned about the electorate's tendencies and the right-wing competition facing the Brothers of Italy party from Vannacci's party, is attempting, through a new electoral law, to pre-emptively rig the deck and create the conditions for a technical victory. This attempt will be fully implemented in Parliament in September, although the outcome of the operation currently appears to be fraught with obstacles. While preparations were underway, the government has skillfully implemented a mass distraction operation, consisting of hiding the Mastro case and hyping and media coverage of the Ranucci case. This has created a soap opera that has held Italians' attention, directing it toward trivial issues, but above all, distorting it from the real problems they face, evidenced by the reduction in vacation time due to lack of financial resources, the rising price of fuel that is significantly hindering travel, and growing concerns about employment at the end of vacation time and incomes. Meanwhile, the government is taking advantage of this to suppress or modify Report.
The Italian government has cleverly exploited the snowball effect of the planned invasion of Ceuta to wage war against the Sánchez government, suspending Schengen, creating the conditions for a much more serious clash over migration policies with the Merz government, which is also struggling on this issue. This is while NGOs, with their ships left alone to patrol the sea, continue their tragic pilgrimage of transporting bodies to Italian ports, and the Italian government toyed with the unlikely creation of new hotspots in third countries, given that with Albania's potential accession to the European Union, the Albanian one would have to be shut down, nullifying the billion-dollar investment.
In this way, the expectations and daily lives of the Italian population are being directed toward false problems, resulting in a disinterest in politics and future government decisions and a preparation for a mass vote in the upcoming elections. This is the only way to form a new minority government, but one with a formal consensus majority that can continue to govern the country undaunted, in the belief that nothing can change and that the world, and the political forces vying for government, are all the same: incompetent and inconsistent.
