Kyiv’s answer to Russia’s bridge strikes? AI turrets.
The capital has begun erecting automatic machine-gun turrets around the bridges after recent attacks, and they’ve already proven effective at shooting down jet-powered drones; Zelensky has also vowed to deploy new, small air-defense missiles to complement the layered air defense. On top of that, the president also promised retaliatory strikes over Russia’s bridge attacks – though in what exact form, that we do not know.
And that is the silver lining in the otherwise grim winter forecast – energy experts warned that extensive blackouts can start as early as this month, while Ukraine is running out of locomotives after Russia started targeting trains. The war is also slowly expanding beyond Ukraine after drone fragments hit a passenger bus on the Moldovan border, with Berlin – which has provided substantive aid to Kyiv in new packages – warning that Russia’s hybrid war might soon not be hybrid anymore.
In other news of interest, Russia is reportedly containing a pneumonic plague outbreak. The Kremlin has refused to confirm it, so we’re keeping an eye on how things unfold.
