Let’s hope Washington is not throwing Ukraine under the bus again.
Ahead of the Oct. 18 Russia sanctions deadline, Putin’s moneyman Dmitriev reportedly pitched an energy deal to restart Nord Stream with US investments. While little is known about the details, Zelensky said he is aware of the talks but ostensibly not very happy, and a Ukrainian delegation – including Budanov – has headed to the US, with European leaders also set to join. Witkoff and Kushner have also boasted of a “new idea” to pitch to Kyiv, though new doesn’t necessarily mean good, as is often in life.
Otherwise, the situation in Kyiv has improved slightly with reduced blackouts. Kyiv Mayor Klitschko has warned of a difficult winter, while Zelensky not-so-tacitly criticized local authorities for their lack of preparation. So, another typical day in Kyiv – but with blackouts.
Another piece of news that caught Ukraine’s attention was the arrest of Ukrainska Pravda’s Mykhailo Tkach in Vienna, supposedly while on duty looking into a corrupt Ukrainian official. He has since been released, but many questions remain unanswered.
