A painting from Russia and a state honor from Ukraine – that about sums up Melania’s reception yesterday.
But US-Russia deals didn’t appear to stop despite the midterm results. Trump received the Kremlin’s chief negotiator, Dmitriev, during the ceremony, while Trump Jr. is reportedly caught up in potential business dealings with his dear friend Kremlev, who paid for his wedding festivities. We looked into the wedding funds and Kremlev’s family connections back to the negotiators not so long ago.
Otherwise, it’s our new normal as usual – Ukraine said $16 billion in pledged US aid is nowhere to be seen, while Europe was hit by a wave of bomb hoaxes yesterday. Europe also sent Kyiv close to €5 billion to help with the budget, while Italy’s Meloni and the EU’s Costa agreed that the bloc needs a negotiator on Ukraine. The question is who, as Kushner also brought forward his five-point Europe security plan.
In Russia, it’s also business as usual, as reports suggest Russia is planning to keep foreign-leased jets through 2028, alongside a seizure of Japan Tobacco’s assets that prompted strong protests from Tokyo. Russia’s prosthetics industry is also booming amid the number of limbs lost in Ukraine, with the profits reportedly going to companies linked to Putin’s inner circle.
