If Trump is right about one thing, it’s that Russia’s invasion is taking a toll on both Ukraine and Russia.
In Kyiv, the water supply has been shut off once again as the energy grid buckles under the load, while renewed Russian bombardments strike businesses and residential buildings nationwide. In the Zaporizhzhia region, the death toll has climbed to 43 after Russia dropped multiple guided bombs on an underground school-turned-aid center, with the moment of the bombardment captured in body-cam footage retrieved from the scene.
For Russia, the ISW asserted that its frontline offensives continue to stall across multiple fronts, while its refineries back home are also being hit hard by another Ukrainian attack, with an estimated $23 billion in damage inflicted thus far after 15 out of 38 refineries are out of commission. The effects of lost oil revenue are also beginning to show, with at least 12 Russian regions cutting payments to the families of soldiers killed in Ukraine.
In the US, Democrats are said to be preparing a probe into Musk’s Starlink cut, while Melania Trump is supposed to host Ukrainian and Russian representatives following the Oleshky ceasefire – a short-lived truce that, by some account, allowed Russia to reinforce troops while leaving some residents behind because they had no means of communication.
Russian diesel bound for the US also turned around reportedly due to sanctions, while Moscow is said to be supplying Tehran with 90 helicopter-mounted missile launchers.
The enemy of your enemy might not be your friend, but a friend of your enemy probably is your enemy as well. In some cases, at least.
