WORLD WORLDWIDE SOUTH-AMERICA BRAZIL - news journal UPDATE - (en) Brazil, FAG: SEPTEMBER 20 | LONG LIVE THE BLACK LANCEIROS! WE DO NOT CLAIM THIS SLAVERY WAR BUT THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM! (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

For years, the Farroupilha Revolution has been taught in schools,

showing the "heroism" of the white commanders and hiding the fact that
hundreds of blacks actually participated in the revolution, being coldly
exterminated in search of freedom. ---- A conflict triggered by the
large landowners due to differences in economic, political and
ideological issues, starting a war against the imperial government.
However, it was the gaucho people, indigenous people, the poor and
enslaved blacks, who were sent to the battlefields to fight and die in
the cowardly and treacherous war of the ranchers.

This was the case with the Black Lancers, who led the battles alongside
the Farroupilhas for 10 years. They were enslaved blacks recruited from
the ranchers, their "owners" who, with great bravery, did not use
shields and protected themselves from the bad weather using woolen
ponchos, which served as beds, blankets and warm clothing.

At the end of the war in 1845, the Farroupilhas and the Imperials were
preparing to sign a peace treaty (the Treaty of Poncho Verde), but they
disagreed on one point: the liberation of the Black Lancers. The Empire
did not accept the promised freedom and wanted them to return to their
condition as slaves.

The solution to this impasse resulted in the Massacre of Porongos, the
last conflict of the war, where the Farroupilha leaders disarmed the
Black Lancers troops and the Imperials cowardly attacked them by
surprise. The betrayal resulted in the death of hundreds of black lancers.

May we learn from our ancestors that we should not play into our
enemies' hands, because history shows us that betrayal is right. For
over 500 years, our black and indigenous people have been resisting in
Brazil, even though it was with our blood and sweat that they built this
so-called "civilization". The persecution, extermination, violations and
marginalization of our peoples have remained a state project that has
been ongoing for centuries in this country. We know that the fight for
our true liberation is still long and depends on our struggle and
resistance.
