We are sharing the statement issued by the Autonomous Workers' Unions and Internationalist Anarchists against the 36th NATO Summit, to be held in Ankara on July 7-8, 2026. --- From Israel's ongoing genocidal policies against Palestine to the devastation caused by the years-long war in Syria, and the expanding regional tensions with the US and Israeli attacks on Iran, West Asia has today become a battleground where imperialist competition is deepening. This picture is an expression not only of regional conflicts but also of the crisis of the global capitalist order.
Under these conditions, the fact that the 36th NATO Summit will be held in Ankara on July 7-8 is no coincidence. NATO, which plays an active role in interventions ranging from Palestine to Afghanistan, Libya to Syria and Kurdistan, continues to be one of the fundamental tools of imperialist power relations and the militarist order. Turkey's hosting of this summit clearly reveals the position of the country's ruling classes within this system of war.
Despite all discursive differences, the Turkish ruling class is not outside this order of war. While producing discourses of "peace" and "opposition" on the one hand, on the other hand, NATO membership is maintained, military collaborations are deepened, and active integration into regional imperial strategies is pursued. The contradiction between the discursive opposition to Israel and the ongoing economic and military relations is, in fact, merely different manifestations of the same class interests. Therefore, for us, the struggle against NATO is not a defense of the homeland; it is a page in the attack against capitalism and the bourgeoisie.
For us workers, NATO, as well as competing states like Iran, Russia, and China, are all parts of the same exploitative system. To align workers behind any of these powers means to make them subservient to the reproduction of their own exploitative relations. Therefore, the struggle against NATO is not merely a struggle against a military alliance, but a class struggle directly against the capitalist order of war.
This struggle also necessitates an internationalist approach. Against nationalism, militarism, war policies, and patriarchy, there is a common interest of workers, youth, and all the oppressed. The fate of Palestinian, Syrian, Iranian, Turkish, Kurdish, and all workers around the world is interconnected; borders are merely ideological lines concealing these exploitative relations. With this understanding, we must raise international solidarity against nationalism, militarism, and war policies everywhere in the world.
Therefore, we are raising our voices against the NATO summit to be held in Ankara. We call on workers, youth, women, LGBTQ+ people, and all anti-war activists to intensify the struggle against militarism, imperialist interventions, and the capitalist order of war.
Our side is neither NATO nor any other dominant power opposing it. Our side represents the common liberation potential of all the workers of the world.
No to NATO. Class War Against War
