Saturday evening August 23 saw over a 1000 people take part in a demonstration in Dublin
demanding the legalisation of Cannabis organised by Legalise Cannabis Ireland. The front
banner read ?Medication - Taxation - Industrialisation - Civil Liberties? and ?We will
raise awareness and demand change to Irish legislation for the benefit of every person in
Ireland. The time is now to end the hypocrisy? ----
http://www.wsm.ie/c/legalise-cannabis-march-dublin-august2014 ---- The message of the
march as expressed by the front banner was very much a demand for capitalism as normal
rather than the gangster capitalism of illegality. That?s obviously a very limited demand
- indeed it?s already been won or partly won in a number of European countries and more
recently states in the USA.
There were a few objections to us announcing that this march was happening on our Facebook
page. The ones we took seriously were people pointing out the harm drugs like heroin do.
Heroin has had a devastating effect on a number of already marginalised sections of the
population, in particular areas of high unemployment and poverty. We've supported
mobilisation in some of those areas to try and remove dealers while recognising in other
cases such campaigns are simply paramilitaries trying to impose themselves as the local
guardians of morality ( for previous articles see http://www.wsm.ie/drugs )
However prohibition has not helped solve this problem, something that a growing number of
organisations and individuals recognise. Instead like the US prohibition of alcohol its
created the situation where gangsters can make a fortune out of selling the banned
substance (in the US of the 1920?a that was alcohol) and therefore have a vested interest
in expanding the market by getting new people addicted.
In addition criminalisation its part of the reason for the huge number of deaths arising
from contaminated product and huge variations in purity. Countries like the Netherlands
that make it possible for users to get drugs tested see much reduced death rates from
accidental overdoes and contamination. Addiction needs to be viewed as a medical issue
rather than a criminal one.
Legalisation is hardly our main priority but the effect the war on drugs has had on the
lives of millions of people and indeed entire societies is not to be laughed off.
Criminalisation has created the conditions for gangsters to run what are some of the
largest agricultural and chemical trades by value on the planet and in the course of doing
so corrupt entire cities & even countries. The best know current example being the
brutality of the drug wars in Northern Mexico where hundreds if not thousands are killed
every year and the running of entire cities is in the hands of the mob.

Belgium : WE ARE WITH YOU-SOLIDARITY PROTEST FOR PALESTINE - 9 JULY

Since mid-June Israeli war crimes in Palestine have escalated, allegedly in response to the disappearance and death of 3 teenage Israeli settlers. However, this latest attack is part and parcel of the illegal occupation of Palestinian land and ongoing Israeli war crimes.
According to international media sources, in just one night Monday June 30 to dawn on Tuesday July 1 at dawn, the Israeli army carried out more than 34 air strikes against different areas in the Gaza Strip, in particular densely populated refugee camps. Additionally, in a sweeping offensive, Israeli Occupation Forces have kidnapped and detained more than 600 Palestinians, including women and children. Settlers have started lynch mobs in which a 17 year old Mohammed Abu Khdair was burned alive.
We are calling for a rally to protest this latest round of war crimes enacted against the Palestinian people.
End Israeli War Crimes Now! No Belgian Government Support for Israeli War Crimes! Boycott Israeli Apartheid! Free All Political Prisoners Now!

Europe : Call of the Protest March for Freedom for Action in Schengen (LUX) on Sunday 1st of June
Saarlouis the 29th of May
Call of the Protest March for Freedom
for Action in Schengen (LUX)
on Sunday 1st of June
On the 13th day of the Protest March we will reach the city Schengen through our third border crossing from Germany to Luxembourg.
After the press conference at 11 am we will cross the bridge from Perl to Schengen to start our action in this symbolic city for racist asylum and migration policies.
Schengen is the city in which the Schengen Treaty was signed. In Schengen the EU is celebrating freedom of movement and „Europe without borders“ as well as FRONTEX. It is celebrating the privileges of the European citizens while criminalizing migration.
Therefore the Schengen Treaty on the other hand means the establishment of Fortress Europe, migrant defence and deaths at the borders of Europe and its seas as well the violation of human rights.
We call all refugees and solidarious groups to join us in Perl to cross the border together to reach Schengen. Through creative actions we want to celebrate there the freedom of movement for EVERYONE and at the same time we want to scandalize the killing militarization of Schengen's outer borders. We want to abolish Frontex, the Dublin System and all anti-migration policies of Europe.
Also on the 5th and 6th of June the Council of the European Union will come together in Luxembourg Ville (Place de l'Europe 4) to discuss the Task Force for the Mediterranean, the Schengen System as well as the new executive director of FRONTEX. Therefore join also our action day on the 5th of June in Luxembourg Ville!!
Let's come there together and smash borders and racism!!

Iraqi refugee camp protest in the Netherlands
Corporate media repost, but I hadn't heard about it anywhere else.
Apparently around 60 Iraqis, who can't be deported since the Iraqi government is no longer accepting deportees, have started camping in a park in the Hague.
Report in English with video. Worth watching:

Refugees start another protest camp in the Netherlands
After the tent camps in Ter Apel, Den Bosch, Zwolle and Sellingen on thursday a tent camp built by a group of rejected asylum refugees on the Koekamp in The Hague.
"We are lawless. We want a humane immigration policy, and our right to be human! "
The municipality of The Hague, known for ignoring the right to demonstrate, banned the permanent placement of tents. A lawsuit was filed on wednesday to claim that staying overnight is part of the protest. This shows precisely the situation the refugees live through.
The protesters have won the lawsuit partially. They can stay during the night! The municipality still claims that the tents should not be closed. For now the demonstrators use so-called party tents, but a new lawsuit about the type of tents is sceduled for next monday...
Everyone is invited to join the protest at the Koekamp (next to the main railway station). Over 30 people are living in the camp, supported by different migrant solidarity groups.
Today there was an action organized from the camp during the installation of the new parliament. Further protests are planned for friday 15:00 h (against the Return and Departure Office) and on saturday: a march into the center of The Hague, starting 13:00 h.
"We do not ask much. Only a life that we could call a life. No one is illegal! We want our human right!"

Refugee Protest March from Wuerzburg to Berlin, Germany starts at the 8th of September - Support needed!
The human being’s mission to achieve freedom is not to stand in line but to disrupt the queue
The striking asylum seekers all over Germany who have initiated a strong and coordinated joint protest,
have decided to launch a new action on 8th September: on this day asylum seekers will move towards
Berlin on 2 different routes and after gathering in this city they will show to the German government that
any action towards implementation of the inhumane deportation law will be responded back by the
asylum seeker’s movement and will not remain unopposed. They will shout louder than ever that they
will continue their struggle until the asylum seekers’ camps with their catastrophic conditions are
abolished. In fact by gathering in Berlin, the asylum seekers will actively disobey the discriminatory law
of limited travelling range, which forces the asylum seekers to remain within a certain area. This well
coordinated action, which is solely organized by the asylum seekers themselves and is independent of
any political party or group, will be a way to strongly voice the opposition against the ‘limited travelling
range’ law.
In Berlin we will stand hand in hand and in solidarity and we will once more announce our legitimate
demands;
- we demand the abolishment of all the asylum seekers’ camps in Germany
- deportation is an inhumane law, a law that solely serves the political and economic interests of
those who are in power, this law must be abolished
- we demand that the law of the limited free travelling of the asylum seekers is abolished
Support is needed for accomodation, food, legal support, money etc. for the foot march and the bustour!

march please follow the link:

1800 kilometer verder, zelfde realiteit

Canada : Protest tegen protestverbod
